L'objectif est ici de retrouver quelques résultats élémentaires communs aux géométries sphérique, euclidienne et hyperbolique.
Pour cela, nous débuterons par une approche purement algébrique, avant d'aboutir à une interprétation plus géométrique des concepts entrevus.
Nous allons ainsi définir une algèbre, ou plutôt un ensemble d'algèbres en apparence identiques à un paramètre près. Ces algèbres contiennent toutes un sous-espace vectoriel tridimensionnel, à la manière des quaternions.
Par la suite, nous étudierons une surface dans ces espaces tridimensionnels, que nous appellerons sphère unité, et qui pourra s'interpréter tantôt comme une sphère, tantôt comme un plan, et tantôt comme un plan hyperbolique.
Nous tâcherons enfin de retrouver sur cette sphère unité quelques résultats de géométrie élémentaire, notamment de géométries du cercle ou du triangle (par exemple, les lois des cosinus et des sinus).
