Carte de l'Île de France

Bien le coincoin mon très cher Sting. J'ai réalisé une carte de l'Île de France en suivant tes modèles (notamment celui de la Bretagne). XIII,東京から s'est chargé d'en faire un modèle de géolocalisation, comme il est de coutume avec tes cartes : Modèle:Géolocalisation/Île-de-France.

Cependant, celle-ci est loin d'être parfaite : sa description n'est pas aussi complète que les descriptions que tu as coutume de faire et je n'ai pas su mettre une échelle comme sur tes cartes.

Je t'invite donc, si le cœur t'en dit et que tu as le temps, à la compléter et à la modifier à ta guise.

Bonjour, je suis utilisateur:Zdtrlik des wikipédias en portugais et en anglais, et je voudrais savoir comment peux-je faire une carte physique vierge comme celle-ci du Maroc (qui a été faite par vous), mais pour le Portugal (sans les îles de Azores et Madère), destinée à la géolocalisation. Je sais que j'aurai besoin de avoir information altimétrique SRTM et utiliser un sistème d'information géographique, mais ... pour avoir le même "layout", comment le faire? Quel a été le SIG utilisé?

Création d'une carte dérivée d'une autre

Salut Sting, je souhaité créer une carte de région en rognant sur la carte suivante : Fichier:France location map-Regions and departements.svg, le reste de la France.

Je me demandais si je devais te mettre toi en auteur de cette nouvelle carte ou si je me mettais moi pour la modification qui a été apporter (certes mineure).

Cette carte File:France_location_map-Departements.svg est destinée à la géolocalisation dans les articles des différentes Wikipédia et son échelle au 1:3 000 000 correspond bien aux nécessités.

À l'heure actuelle les besoins au sein du projet pour une carte de ce type plus détaillée sont faibles et vous comprendrez qu'en raison de la complexité, du temps et des ressources nécessaires pour créer une telle carte, mes contributions à titre gracieux se limitent à Wikipédia. Hello. If it's about File:Italy topographic map-blank.svg, as I said in its discussion page, you're allowed to freely use and modify the map for your needs as long as you respect the license (credit for the author and the source, distribute the modified map with the same license). Only the topographic background is a raster image, all the additional information are vector, so you can very easily, within seconds, remove the unwanted information from the file with a vector graphics editor like Inkscape. Nouvelle-Calédonie

I was researching reefs and islands east of New Caledonia in French because there is very little information in English. I recently discovered that Îsle de Sable (east of Îsles Chesterfield on your map) is blacked out in Google Earth. It is named "Sandy Island" in Google Earth at coordinates 19° 6'3.32"S, 159°56'34.81"E.

I am curious to discover the reason this location is obscured on Google Earth; normally this is done for security purposes, but I can't imagine what feature might require this in the Coral Sea, unless the French government has a military station there. One of the few references to this island that I found in English says it does not exist! :

It's all very mysterious. I have exhausted ways to research this online in English, and the Google Earth Community web page is under reconstruction, so I cannot post questions there. Relief map of Italy

Dear Eric, while I thanks for your wonderful cartographic work available on wikicommons, I kindly ask if it is possible to have a different version of the Italy relief map (black and white) that you published. If it's about File:Italy_topographic_map-blank.svg, you can easily modify this map for your needs by extracting and turning the raster background map in B&W and deleting the regional boundaries vector layer from the file using a free vector graphic editor like Inkscape. Falklands Map

I agree with the consensus opinion that your Falkland Islands map is great work. I have a suggestion if you are inclined to do some additional work on it. Since 2007, the Falkland Islands Government has done a lot of road building. You might want to update the roads and distinguish among paved roads, gravel roads, and tracks. Carte densité monuments historiques par départements

Bonjour, je suis un petit éditeur de l'Oise. Je travaille actuellement sur un projet de livre sur la ville de Senlis, abordant de multiples aspects : histoire, géographie physique et humaine, culture, éducation, économie... Pour illustrer un texte traitant de la préservation du patrimoine de la ville je souhaiterais pouvoir utiliser votre carte de la "Densité des monuments historiques par départements", en mentionnant l'auteur et l'origine bien entendu. Thanks a lot! I've spent the most of the last time reading your tutorials ans learning how to use the map tools. And it was a hard time :) The whole map making process with 3DEM and GRASS is very complicated and time-consuming. 3DEM is a good program, but GRASS GIS is a nightmare in matters of usability. I don't know, i've used the old 6.3.0 version. Maybe the new one is better. Anyway your tutorials (and JaneVannin's translations) are very useful. Cartes de France

Bonjour, J'utilise vous cartes sur les régions françaises pour les présenter à mes élèves de Français langue étrangère (FLE). Je les utilise dans un projet que je suis en train de développer pendant quelques années écolières. La présentation de ce projet aux Journées Pédagogiques sur l'enseignement du Français à Barcelone, m'ont poussé à les montrer aussi à des copains. Une de vos images, concrètement celle de Lorraine, pourrait être utilisé pour illustrer mon article dans les actes.

Dear Sting, together with several other German history teachers I am working on an online project about world history (http://rfb.bildung-rp.de/rfb/rose-matthias/bili-projekt.html). The texts are written by us, in English, meant to be read and downloaded by German and (all other) pupils (and everybody else interested in history) who take bilingual classes in their schools. I am currently writing an overview of imperialism. Is it possible to use your map of Africa (http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=File:Colonial_Africa_1913_map.svg&page=1) for this project? I would copy and paste it into the text and in a footnote say where I got the image from. Would that do? Yes, putting a link to the original file is fine, but prefer a link pointing directly to the page on Wikimedia Commons (http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Colonial_Africa_1913_map.svg) which is the project hosting the files used in the Wikipedias.

Atoll maps of French Polynesia

Well, I think this won't be an easy task: remote location, low-populated area...

Making a very fast search I found http://www.mana.pf/inc/zonecouv.swf (in the sub-menu “Iles Tuamotu”). Not a great map but that's a start for the names.

At this point I see two directions for the research:

• The French one with the printed maps of the IGN and the SHOM. I don't know if the IGN made one: I looked in the www.geoportail.gouv.fr but didn't find anything at this stage. The SHOM has several but are navigation-oriented so they may not contain lots of ground-based details. There's for example their map #6690 but the scale is only 1:592 600, so it won't be enough. You will have to look directly on their site if they have more detailed maps of the area.
• The US Gov one, perhaps, with their scanned maps. Take a look at the Vmap-0 of the area. You won't probably have access to the much better Vmap-1 one as it's a French area.

• http://lisezmoi.blogspace.fr/r84019/les-departements-francais/4/?__hsc A blog with several small maps of different sources (like from tahiti-tourisme.fr), some names may be helpfull

As I thought, Vmap-0 is really poor, same for OSM. What's left are specialized travel and cruising books like the South Pacific Anchorages, Charlie's Charts of Polynesia and the Moon Handbooks South Pacific. I don't know what they hold inside them so you have to check before any purchase, but I know they're usefull to the cruisers. Further on I only see navigation charts.

Salut Sting ! "Bien actif", c'est beaucoup dire, je marche par à-coup. Je voulais te demander quelle échelle colorimétrique exacte tu avais utilisé pour les cartes de départements français et de région (en géoloc) : puisque tu en as déjà fait la majorité autant qu'on se cale sur ton échelle, afin d'éviter des incohérences de couleurs entre plusieurs cartes (exemple : ici par rapport à là). Si tu ne sais plus, ce n'est pas grave, j'essaierai de corriger ma carte avec une échelle grosso modo similaire. À part ça, il y a de plus en plus de données additionnelles vectorielles libres à utiliser dans les cartes, c'est cool (enfin tout dépend de la région). Par contre on cherche comment automatiser le plus possible la création de cartes, au moins des cartes de bases, à partir de ces données : l'atelier graphique est débordé par les demandes. On s'est vu Yug, Sémhur, Flappiefh et moi, et si à l'occasion tu reviens en France n'hésite pas à prévenir l'un d'entre nous, qu'on aille prendre un verre si tu veux, ça serait sympa. Super, merci. Oui, Yug m'a dit que vous vous étiez vus. Je suis d'accord avec toutes les remarques que tu as faites pour les aster comme pour la Picardie (je teste des trucs...). Yug m'a mis sur une piste que j'ai testée aujourd'hui (avec qgis 1.8), et qui permet de créer directement un bitmap contenant relief + ombrage (ou ombrage seul) sans utiliser The GIMP. Bref ça bouge. What do the numbers signify in your plate tectonics map?

I'm doing some research on the New Guinea and I'm very interested in your map.

It is tremendously clear except for one thing, what do the numbers mean? I assume they are plate or region names but I can't find a legend. Am I missing something?

Hello Marc.

The black numbers which give origin to a black arrow are, as indicated in the legend of the map, the velocity (in millimeters per year) of the plate at that location with respect to the African plate taken as reference. The arrows give the direction of the movement of the plates at those locations and their length is proportional to their velocity.

Carte topographique de l'Alsace

Bonjour Mr. Gaba (alias Sting si je comprends bien !)

Je cherchais une carte topographique de l'Alsace sans mention des noms de villes, et je suis tombé sur votre carte présente sur le site de Wikipédia (allemand). Je suis en train de créer une page HTML / JavaScript qui utilise la base de données complète des villes et villages Alsaciens avec leurs coordonnées géographiques (latitude, longitude). J'utilise ces coordonnées pour placer précisément la localisation des villes et villages sur une carte d'Alsace. Je voulais vous féliciter pour la précision géographique de votre carte, car après une mise à l'échelle nécessaire, mes points de coordonnées tests (par exemple longitude Est 7° et latitude Nord 48°) tombent très précisément sur vos lignes d'intersections latitude - longitude.

J'ai récemment ajouté cette image des États-Unis vus de nuit:

Pour être complet, j'ai précisé le type de projection dans la description de l'image.

D'après l'utilitaire gdalinfo, c'est une projection d'Albers (conique etc.). Je ne suis pas calé en cartographie et projections, même si je commence à m'intéresser au sujet. J'ai donc spécifié 2 parallèles standards et le méridien central de la projection. Est-ce suffisant d'après toi?

• Encore merci ! Je te retourne le compliment pour tes contributions et notamment tes superbes cartes. J'en mettrai peut être qqunes sur Wikipédia (j'ai identifié des plans de quartier de Paris à remplacer). Tu peux t'attendre à d'autres questions car je sais notamment que vous avez défini une charte grahique assez précise. Pour l'instant j'arrive à ça : File:Louvre_Access_Map.png, mais c'était du très facile. Là je m'exerce pour faire une carte plus propre et lisible. J'essaie de faire un rendu d'une carte de bus un peu comme sur un plan RATP, avec les lignes qui parcourent des portions communes affichées les unes à côté des autres. C'est très difficile, et d'ailleurs le fait que je ne trouve pas de cartes de ce type sur le net me "rassure" sur les difficultés que je rencontre.
