History

modifier

Septodont was founded in 1932 by Annie & Nestor Schiller. In the 1950’s and 1960’s, under the leadership of Henri Schiller, Septodont showed significant development with the introduction of dental therapeutics that are still appreciated today around the world such as Endomethasone, Alveogyl or Detartrine. At that same time Septodont also started to focus on dental anesthesia being amongst the frontrunners introducing local anesthetics in single use cartridges. These dental cartridges remain today the standard used in dentistry worldwide. The dedication of the company on dental anesthesia was reinforced over the years, with the acquisition of a manufacturing site dedicated to dental needles in France in 1990. In 2000, Septodont introduced the first articaine-based anesthetic in the United States (Septocaine®). Since then, the presence of the company in North America has been constantly reinforced with the acquisition of an injectable anesthetic facility in 2001 in Canada (Cambridge, ON) and the creation of a manufacturing site for restorative solutions in Colorado. Over the years the Septodont Group also extended its local presence in other territories opening commercial affiliates in India (1998), China (2001), Brazil (2003) and in European countries (United Kingdom, Germany, Poland, Benelux, Italy and Spain). Beyond the focus on dental anesthesia, Septodont invested in Research and Development towards bioactive and biocompatible therapeutic solutions. This led to the introduction of products based on a patented biosilicate technology, Biodentine (2010 –dentin restoration) and BioRoot RCS (2015- Root canal sealer)

Recently the Septodont group acquired 2 companies in Brazil (TDV – 2014, restorative material) and DLA (2016, injectable anesthetics), one in Canada (Duoject – 2015, design for injection devices) and opened a new manufacturing unit for injectable anesthetics in its headquarter in Saint-Maur-des-Fossés in France (2016)

Beyond the dental field, through its subsidiary Novocol Healthcare2 (created in 2015), Septodont also offers partnership with pharmaceutical and medical device companies to utilize its specialize manufacturing capabilities.

Septodont remains today a 100% family owned business under the leadership of Olivier Schiller (CEO).4
