Un non-enregistré a modifié le nom de l'article en écrivant dans son commentaire que Polish Airlines est un nombre anglais (un hispanophone ?) — alors qu'il n'a qu'à consulter tous les documents distribués par la LOT, l'indication Polish Airlines y figure parfois en polonais. Je ne doute pas néanmoins que le nom polonais soit plus authentique : mais il n'est guère utilisé par la marque… Alors un nombre anglais non, mais une marque commerciale comprise par tous… ᄋEnzino᠀ 7 jan 2005 à 00:15 (CET)
- I understand French, but I don't speak it. Sorry to reply in English, but I hope you'll understand. In case you don't -let me know, Polish/Czech/Slovak/Russian/Spanish/Portugese versions of this explanation is available.
- I'm a Pole myself (Halibutt on other wikis) and I can explain the whole problem with the name of the Polish Airways. The name of the company is (and almost always was) Polskie Linie Lotnicze LOT (or PLL LOT in short). In English the English language translation is often used (LOT Polish Airlines), but it is but a translation, not the official name.
- Other problem is that in late 1920's there was a reform of the Polish language, in which there were several important grammatical changes. Among them was the change of semi-consonant "j" into "i". That's why the name of the company was changed from "Polskie Linje Lotnicze" to "Polskie Linie Lotnicze". The name was officially changed to the new spelling in 1938 (see their webpage for details). The sounds are still the same, only the spelling changed.

Thank you very much for the explanation. I did not know for the Linje > Linie change in 1930s. My English is not so good, but I understand it. I do not speak Polish, but I understand somehow Ukrainian. I think that LOT officially uses the English translation in all his official communication.
