The Studio des Ursulines is a cinema in the 5e arrondissement de Paris, at No.10, Rue des Ursulines

Founding modifier
In 1925, the actors Armand Tallier and Laurence Myrga chose the small rue des Ursulines to establish a radical new type of cinema specialising in fims from the ’avant-garde, catering for the art house audiences. Thus was born the first avant-garde cinema in France, a precursor of the now well established system of « Art et Essai ».
The Studio des Ursulines showed its first film on ; amongst films to be shown were those by André Breton, Man Ray, Fernand Léger, René Clair, Robert Desnos.
Between January 1926 and December 1957 it premiered a very wide range of films now established as classics such as René Clair’s Le Voyage Imaginaire, Von Stroheim’s Greed, Sternberg’s The Blue Angel, Rossellini’s’ Amore and Hawks’ A girl in Every Port. From 1958 it showed work by Satyajit Ray, Andrej Wayda, Ingmar Bergman and Luis Bunuel.
The scandal of 1928 modifier
In 1928, it premiered the first film of Germaine Dulac, taken from a story by Antonin Artaud, The Seashell and the Clergyman The film was heckled by the surrealists André Breton and Louis Aragon leading to a fight that stopped the screening. Armand Tallier did not call the police and the screening of the film took pacea few weeks later. Tallier represented a love of the sprit of cinema rather than a cinema businessman. He baceasme associated in the 1950’s with the creation of the Art et Essai, movement with the birth of l’AFCAE (Association Française des Cinémas d’Art & d’Essai) in 1955.
The Studio des Ursulines today modifier
Depuis mars 2003, la programmation du Studio des Ursulines est majoritairement destinée en journée à l'Art & Essai jeune public, et en soirée au cinéma d'animation et/ou à des rencontres type ciné-club.
Since March 2003, the majority of the programming of the Studio des Ursulines during the day is aimed at the 'Art & Essai’ public, especially younger audiences, and in the evening animation and ciné-club. (Film Club) screenings.

- One of the last scenes of Truffaut’s Jules et Jim takes place at the Studio des Ursulines, where the three main characters meet by chance.
•The end of the film Chantrapas and a scene in Après mai were shot at the Studio des Ursulines.
