- En 1968, et suite à un match nul, l'Italie gagne à domicile sa demi-finale contre l'URSS par tirage au sort.
- Lors de l'édition de 1960, Franco refuse de se rendre en Union soviétique et l'Espagne perd son quart de finale par forfait.
- C'est à l'épreuve des tirs au but de l'édition de 1976 que le footballeur Tchécoslovaque Antonín Panenka donne son nom à un geste technique.
- C'est lors de l'l'édition de 1984 qu'est née l'expression footballistique « faire une Arconada ».
- Avec 9 buts, Michel Platini est le meilleur buteur de l'Euro.
- Le « Trophée Henri-Delaunay », qui récompense le vainqueur du championnat d'Europe de football, a été nommé ainsi en hommage à Henri Delaunay qui eut l'idée d'organiser cette compétition.
