Summer Well Festival is, as its tagline proclaims, much more than just a music festival. [1]
The boutique festival has been held annually in late summer since 2011 at Domeniul Stirbey, near Bucharest, Romania. The last Summer Well attracted 42.000 people. Usually a two-day music festival, last year it extended to a third night with a new concept, Night Picnic.
A music and art, family-friendly festival. It has a wellness area, art installations and plentiful amounts of shops, food and drink stands hidden in the woods. There's something to keep whatever age entertained.
Heading into its 8th year, the first wave of confirmed acts include Justice, Bastille, The Kooks, Kodaline, Cigarettes After Sex, Sofi Tukker, Rationale, Tom Grennan, HMLTD, Isaac Gracie and will take place on August 11 and 12, 2018.

modifierSummer Wellness
modifierTo give the traditional festival template a healthier twist, Summer Well has a wellness area that aims to offer a complete experience to those interested in a lifestyle that includes a strong preoccupation for the things that can make life better. Inspiring through collective participation in art, yoga, dance, education, regenerative strategies and the fundamental connection with nature. There’s something for everyone to either help them relax or to rev up their metabolism. We’d love to share this experience with you.
Night Picnic & Summer Well Symphonic
modifierNight Picnic is definitely an experience that should not be missed. The relaxed simplicity of the concept is at the heart of the event. Connecting wonderful people in a beautiful place to sing and dance as the stars come out. The magic is powered by Bucharest Symphony Orchestra that played the first concert in the Summer Well Symphonic series, in 2017: songs of the bands in the line-up, played in a classical manner.
Bohemian Village
modifierA boutique fashion and lifestyle market, providing an area for designers, creatives and collectors to showcase their wares, connect and collaborate in a positive, unique environment.
Art & Installations
modifierSuper Hot Structure
modifierSummer Well showcased the vibrant work of Morag Myerscough and Luke Morgan[2], the famous British designers, part of Supergroup London. They created a series of trademark structures that were displayed during the festival, in 2017. ‘Super hot was the perfect name for our huge playful neon installation rising up out of the trees’, say the designers. Made from plywood and scaffolding, the installation was designed with intricate details, each which facilitated a range of activities: slide and swing are paired with colorful hand-painted walls, providing the perfect backdrop for photos and performances.
Lantern Company
modifierThe Lantern Company created amazing and memorable art installations at Summer Well, in 2017. Life size animal lantern menagerie and illuminated characters, beauty, mystery and the absurd, often all at the same time walked through the festival.
Axiom
modifierAxiom by Kit Webster is an edifice of light, sculpted from a matrix of more than 700,000 LEDs. Emerging as three symmetrically aligned archways, the installation presents a canvas for a series of video animations designed to embody and envelop its surfaces and contours. Within Axiom exists a transition between form and illumination; the intent being to cause the observer to reconsider what is virtual and what is actual. The animations and synchronised soundscapes provide an evolving syncopated framework, moving from meditative pulsations to rapid percussions, enhanced by hypnotic musical overtones.
Digital Interventions
modifierThe celebrated Romanian artist, Dan Crețu, had his first exhibition ever at Summer Well Festival 2016, in the lobby of Regina Maria Hall.
Miracoco
modifierMiracoco by Arhitects of Air marks an evolution gaining more control over the aesthetic of the structure - firstly in using a computer program to develop the design and secondly in using new materials to more closely engineer the forms.
Amococo
modifierAmococo by Architects of Air is the most labyrinthine of the luminaria. It features 86 triaxial domes and 71 pods that create an endlessly weaving complex of pathways where the visitors may happily lose themselves. Amococo is the largest luminarium and has the potential to be set up in a very long narrow configuration approaching 80 metres (260 feet) in length.
Neon Signs
modifierThe Summer Well neon signs transcend simple display, and reach the status of creative art.

Enigmatica Video Sculpture
modifierEnigmatica is a synesthetic video sculpture by Kit Webster consisting of ten suspended concentric frames illuminated by a sequence of geometric animations. The animated patterns alternate from being mapped to each individual frame to blending across the entire sculpture creating an illusionary dimensional shift that explores the distinction between the digital and physical elements of the work.
ENRA
modifierJapanese supergroup enra defies conventions of space, time, gravity, and physics, through seamless synchronization of digital projection and physical movement. Using vibrant swatches of primary colors, Tetris-like geometry in multiple dimensions, and contrasts between human silhouette and digital art, enra‘s performances are futuristic and otherworldly. In fact, enra‘s own name hints at the supernatural: enra is derived from the name for the mythical shape-shifting and smoke-like Japanese spirit enenra.
