Ginkgoa is a French/American Pop Electroswing band founded in Paris in 2010. The band is composed of Nicolle Rochelle (American singer, author and dancer) and Antoine Chatenet (French composer and producer). The duo has been backed on stage by the drummer Grégory D’Addario (since 2010), the bassist Anne-Colombe Martin (since 2010) and the clarinetist, keyboardist Sylvain Hamel (2012-2014) and then Corentin Giniaux (since 2014).

1. Biography

Formation

In 2010, Nicolle. who was at the time in France for a musical show, stumbled upon Antoine’s productions on soundcloud. Upon hearing Antoine’s songs, she instantly recognized herself within the sound and fell in love with his musical style. That very same evening, they met by pure chance in a Parisian jazz club, and GINKGOA was born.

First tours, prizes

In 2011, Ginkgoa played their first concert in Paris and a few months later they signed with the French booking agency “Caravelle Productions” and “A Gauche De la Lune”. They were subsequently chosen to participate in the workshops of the well-known French festival "Francofolies de la Rochelle " where they won the prize for «Favorite Group». Following this honor, they signed with Sony/Atv Publishing and started a long tour of 100 concerts in France, Switherland, and Belgium. During that time, they won numerous awards such as the “Studio Acoustic Award” for the Festival "Alors Chante" of Montauban, the “BEA Award” for the Festival “Voix de Fête” of Geneva, the “Discovery Award” for the festival “Paroles et Musique” of St-Etienne, and the “Favorite Group Award” for the “Interval festival” of Lyon.

Rochas campaign

In 2012, their first single "From New York to Paris" became the anthem of the perfume company ROCHAS for the European campaign of the brand.

The First Album

In 2013, Ginkgoa was the opening act of Caravan Palace during parts of their tour. This relationship fostered a musical collaboration with Arnaud De Bosredon, the main producer of Caravan Palace, who worked on the production of their first album “From New York to Paris”.

International Tour

In 2014-2015, Ginkgoa signed with different international booking agencies: “FLiArtists” in the USA, “Patchanka Booking” in Germany, and “Ludwig Sound” in Italy. Making an international tour of over 80 concerts, the band played in New Caledonia at the « Gypsy Swing Festival », all over China for 3 weeks, in many famous festivals in Germany (“The Fusion Festival”, “The Wilwarin festival”, “The Perspective Festival”…), in Switherland (« The Festival de jazz de Montreux »), in Canada (« The IJazz Festival International of Montreal » and in Italy. As success picked up for them outside of France, Ginkgoa was inspired to add new songs composed in English and postpone the release of their album to the beginning of 2016.
