John Elvis Smelcer (Alaska, ) est un linguiste, anthropologue et écrivain américain[1].

De mère blanche et père d'ascendance ahtna, il étudie la littérature et l’anthropologie à l’université d'Alaska. Il obtient son doctorat en 1993 et travaille plus tard en tant que professeur.
