Symbolism
The four charges of the shield allude to the four methods of transportation of the Corps: ship, rail, truck and air. Brick red and golden yellow are the Transportation Corps colors, and the lamp and book are symbols of knowledge.
Background
The device was originally approved for the U.S. Army Transportation School on 8 Mar 1957. It was amended to revise the blazon of the shield on 5 Apr 1957. On 20 May 1974 the device was amended to correct the blazon of the shield.
