Baptist and of the Virgin, in front of the cathedral. Theview from the cathedral grounds is very fine. Adjacent to itare the Bishops Palace, St. Bonaventure College and a con-vent. The whole group cost about half a million dollars. The Church of England Cathedral, about half way up theslope, was designed by Sir Gilbert Scott in an early Englishstyle, and was dedicated to St. John the Baptist. Before itsdestruction by the fire of 1892 it was one of the finest ecclesi-astical edifices in British America. In that fire it sufferedterribly, only the bare walls being left. The walls of thetransept were not seriously injured but the beautiful archeswere ruined. This portion of the cathedral has been roofedand the arches restored, and it is now used for services, butthe nave, which suffered more, has not yet been restored. On the Military Road, running along the crest of theridge, stands the Colonial Building, or House of Parliament,containing chambers for the two branches of the Legislature,
