| Description |
English: This image was obtained with the wide-field view of the Mosaic camera on the Mayall 4-meter telescope at Kitt Peak National Observatory. M15 is a globular cluster in the constellation of Pegasus. It is estimated to contain over 100,000 stars. In this image, North is left, East is down. The image was generated with observations in the B (blue), V (green) and I (red) filters. This image demonstrates the new Mosaic 1.1 detectors' ability to see faint stars without overexposing ('saturating') the bright center of the cluster. Pease 1, a planetary nebula, is also embedded in the cluster. Can you find it? (Hint: It is blue and just slightly larger than a star). |
