Interior of the dome in the banking hall in Dundas House, St Andrew Square in Edinburgh, Scotland. The house was designed in 1771 the architect Sir William Chambers; it was acquired by the Royal Bank of Scotland in 1825 and it is now the registered head office of the Royal Bank of Scotland. The large, opulent banking hall was added in 1857 by John Dick Peddie, who covered it with a huge dome. The interior of this dome is painted blue, pierced by 5 tiers of star-shaped gold-rimmed coffered skylights radiating out from the central oculus which diminish in size towards the centre, representing the firmament. An illustration of this star pattern featured on Royal Bank of Scotland's "Islay" series of banknotes which were in circulation 1987–2016.[1]
