It would be difficult to over-estimate the value of the information afforded by theclinical thermometer as a guide to the detection and treatment of disease. Thislittle instrument is so simple in structure, and its use is so easily acquired, that itshould be in the hands of every one who aspires, in however humble a degree, torelieve the sufferings of his fellow-creatures. Every mother should at once get athermometer, and learn how to take the temperature of her children. A singleobservation may remove the most distressing anxiety as to the nature of a temporaryindisposition, and show the absence of grounds for alarm.
