English: The Milk Creek Battlefield Park, located on County Road 15, between mile markers 11 and 12, in Rio Blanco County Colorado. The park memorializes a battle between the United States Army and the White River Utes that occurred in September, 1879.. There are two main monuments. The one on the left is for the U.S. Army soldiers who were killed and wounded. It was made in Chicago and brought to the battlefield site (actually located in the valley down the hill from the park) within a few years after the battle. In the late 1940s, it was moved to its current location, and a new base added. The monument on the right commemorates the Ute dead and wounded and was placed there and dedicated in 1993. The site is also called the Thornburgh Battle Ground and the older monument the Thornburgh Monument, named after Thomas T. Thornburgh, a U.S. Army major who died in battle there.
