Into the Gap est le quatrième album studio du groupe britannique new wave Thompson Twins, sorti en .

Succès commercial modifier

L'album connaît un grand succès international, le plus important de la carrière du groupe, arrivant en tête des ventes au Royaume-Uni et en Nouvelle-Zélande, tandis qu'aux États-Unis il se classe 10e dans le Billboard 200.

Into the Gap engendre cinq singles à succès : Hold Me Now, Doctor! Doctor!, You Take Me Up, Sister of Mercy et The Gap, les quatre premiers se classant respectivement 4e, 3e, 2e et 11e des ventes au Royaume-Uni[4]. Aux États-Unis, Hold Me Now se hisse à la 3e place du Billboard Hot 100 et culmine en tête du Hot Dance Club Songs[5],[6]

Production et mixage modifier

L'album est coproduit par Alex Sadkin (en) et le chanteur du groupe, Tom Bailey. Il a été enregistré aux Compass Point Studios à Nassau aux Bahamas, et mixé à Londres aux studios RAK avec Phil Thornalley au poste d'ingénieur du son[7]. Son travail vaut à l'album une nomination aux Grammy Awards en 1985 dans la catégorie Meilleure conception technique d'album - non classique (Best Engineered Album, Non-Classical)[8].

Réédition modifier

Into the Gap est réédité en 2008 dans une version double CD avec des titres supplémentaires sortis en face B des singles et maxi 45 tours tirés de l'album et des remixes parus sur l'édition cassette audio britannique[9].
