DescriptionMycenaean bronze jug (15th-14th cent. B.C.) at the National Archaeological Museum on October 6, 2021.jpg
English: Midea (Dendra). 15th-14th centuries B.C.
The important Mycenaean cemetery of Midea is situated on a hillside near the modern village of Dendra. Midea is the third large Mycenaean citadel with Cyclopian walls in the Argolid. Its cemetery was excavated by the Swede Axel W. Persson in 1926-1927, 1937, and 1939. The tholos tomb and chamber tombs 2 and 10contained the richest burials. Ornate gold and silver vessels, bronze vessels, and weapons, gold jewelry, gold signet rings, seals made of semi-precious stones, and exotic objects, such as the ostrich egg, illustrate the wealth and power of Midea's ruling class.
