Ford had been producing factory made pickup trucks since 1925. 1948 was the first of the F-Series Ford Pickups. These early F-Series were the F-1, then from 1953, they were the F100. Ford Pickups now had a one piece windshield which increased visibility, the cab was wider, longer, and taller. The F-1 got restyled in 1951, fenders were revised to house an all-new silver painted grille, with a large horizontal bar spread across the front of the truck supported by three bullet-shaped teeth, the bumper and dashboard were restyled too. Cargo beds were hardwood rather than steel. Available in standard Five Star Cab or deluxe Five Star Extra Cab. The latter got a better appointed interior and chrome exterior accents and grille. The 52 truck was very similar to the 51, the V8 emblem moved from above the grille, up into the hood scoop embellishment on the hood, the grille now painted white and the chrome strip on the side of the hood revised. There were 8 models to choose from, starting with the 1/2 ton F-1, then 3/4 ton F-2 (heavy duty F-3), 1 ton F-4, 1 1/2 ton F-5, 2 ton F-6, 2 1/2 ton F-7 and 3 ton F-8.
