replacement of interwiki links modifier

Please, can you don't modify the emplacement of interwikis. Your bot place this links at the top of the page, for a lot of reasons, it's prefers at the bottom (just a section to edit, etc.) archeos 28 juillet 2005 à 20:00 (CEST)Répondre

Is this new? fr: used to be one of the exceptions to this rule, and the latest version of pywikipediabot uses a special rule for fr:, plus a few other languages, especially because of this exception. If it is agreed on fr: to place the interwikis at the bottom, I can modify the bot to do that, and upload the new version so that other bots will follow the same rules. -- Quistnix 29 juillet 2005 à 08:47 (CEST)Répondre

Error from RobotQuisnix modifier

Make some errors For example: The french article Cesare Battisti talks of two differents personnalities. The english wiki has 2 articles. Logically, the french interwiki link must be en:Cesare_Battisti (disambiguation). But the bot has destroyed the link! --Serged 3 août 2005 à 08:59 (CEST)Répondre

My bot breaks links: yes. On its own: no. I am the one who approves te removal of interwiki links.
Over the last weeks, thousands of new disambiguation pages have been made, and most interwiki bots are, unfortunately, running in autonomous mode, not breaking any interwiki link. Things won't get any worse when doing so, but not any better either. It is much easier to repair a broken link if no incorrect link is present than it is when there are incorrect interwiki links on the pages. So I chose to break every link I am not 100% sure of.
My bot makes hundreds of changes per day, on several languages. Sure it makes a few mistakes from time to time, but if I would think it makes more than 1 mistake in every 100 changes, I wouldn't be running it. -- Quistnix 3 août 2005 à 19:28 (CEST)Répondre
I think you have to not break links with disambiguations. For exemple:
Ankara in french wiki is an unique entry (the city and the state in Turkey). But on the turkish wiki, there are 2 entry (the state and the city). Your robot has killed the link to the disambiguation page, which is a logical link: the french article speaks from the city AND the state. --Serged 5 août 2005 à 11:56 (CEST)Répondre
That is a good example where my bot has broken a good link. I must have been too tired to see it. It is not a big problem, since bots are programmed to make links easily. Breaking existing links is something most bots won't do, and at this moment it is needed on many pages to make a cleanup. Normally I don't like breaking links, but right now the enormous growth in disambiguation pages has made it necessary. Sorry for the broken interwikis, but most links I checked were broken for a good reason. -- Quistnix 9 août 2005 à 01:01 (CEST)Répondre

Have you seen the , look at the interwiki ! YolanC 6 août 2005 à 17:48 (CEST)Répondre

This is a fundamental problem. Disambiguation pages were not meant to be used to place articles on, but just to point to different pages for the homonyms. In this case, the template is used in a way it was not intended to. Either the template should be removed, or more pages should be created that are linked from this page. I would suggest to remove the homonym-template from . -- Quistnix 7 août 2005 à 02:13 (CEST)Répondre
By placing the homonym text from the template on the page, but not adding the category, it is possible to keep the page as it was, without confusing the interwiki bots. I have just made that change. The page still isn't a regular homonym page, but bots will treat it as a normal page, not as a disambiguation page. -- Quistnix 7 août 2005 à 02:20 (CEST)Répondre

disambiguation page modifier

Your bot delete interwikis when the English page was changed to a disambiguation page (for example). If you want to make a "good" job, update the link to the correct page otherwise do nothing in this case (you deleted many links (other than en:) that pointed to correct articles). Aineko 8 août 2005 à 16:31 (CEST)Répondre

It takes days, even for my bot, to complete a complete run on fr.wikipedia. Correct links will be added by bots, but only if the incorrect interwikis have been removed first. Yes, my bot is doing half the job at this moment, but it is a very important step to do first to clean up interwiki links. The way the bots are programmed, it is easy to restore broken links by using multi login and starting from another language. If the incorrect links are not broken, most bots will just skip the page and nothing will be fixed. -- Quistnix 9 août 2005 à 00:41 (CEST)Répondre

Interwiki & categories placement modifier

Hello Quistnix,

Your bot is movingthe interwiki links at the bottom of the page, which is great, but could it move the categories as well, just like many other bots do (Badmood I think) ? We voted for this rule a few months ago to put Categories, then Interwikis at the end.

Thank you, le Korrigan bla 14 novembre 2005 à 01:01 (CET)Répondre

Be careful categories are NOT ALWAYS at end of the wikicode. This happens when there is a <noinclude> or <includeonly> section (notably in templates). The rules are:
  • In templates, interwikis SHOULD always be added in a noinclude section.
  • If a template has no such section, then existing interwikis (and added interswikis) SHOULD be moved (or placed) into a new noinclude section.
  • New noinclude sections (added only when necessary) SHOULD be added at end of the template: the opening <noinclude> tag should be inserted at end of the existing last line before the last end-of line, you should put newlines within the noinclude section with one interwiki per line, but you'll terminate the noinclude section by a single newline after the closing </noinclude> tag.
  • NO interwiki should be added within includeonly sections. If there are some, keep them unchanged, unless they point to nothing (interwikis should better not be inserted in includeonly sections.
  • Categories in includeonly sections MUST NOT be moved out of includeonly sections. But they MAY be moved at end of the last includeonly section.
  • If there's already at least one noinclude section, then interwikis and categories SHOULD be placed at end of the last noinclude section in the page, and if there is other content after the last noinclude section, then a new noinclude section MAY be added at end of the template (as above) to move the existing noinclude categories or interwikis there, along with added interwikis.
  • If there's no interwiki in the page, then interwikis should be placed just after the last category of the noinclude section if it exists, or after the last category in the page (outside the includeonly section).
  • NO <includeonly>...</includeonly> or <noinclude>...</noinclude> tag should be removed, unless their content become completely empty (if it remains a newline after removing the lines for categories or interwikis, then the section content is not empty, and the section MUST be preserved).
These rules are important in templates, but also in some articles whose content is embedded in another article. Not respecting them will either break the page layout of articles that include those templates (for example it could break tables or add unwanted vertical space or would break paragraphs), or will add undesirable categories or interwikis in articles that include the template.
For this reason, the BOT's parser should always COMPLETELY SKIP the includeonly sections, whatever their content, and should not alter them. It will parse the noinclude sections and will detect existing categories and interwikis located there, to keep them in a noinclude section.

Salut. Veuillez excuser mon mauvais français. J'écris en anglais.

Thank you. I'm writing about the changes (shown here) made to the article "Esquisse" on the 12. of November 2005. Mistakes were made in the links to the English and German version of the article. The links were correct before the changes.

I'd like to ask you not to mark such changes as a "minor change" or "modification mineure". Maybe it's a good idea not to mark any changes using an automated software program as "minor".

Thanks. --Sorry about not writing in French. --82.83.0.21 19 novembre 2005 à 13:53 (CET)Répondre

Dear fellow Wikipedian,
This is a choice that was made by the programmers of the pywikipediabot. Most admins prefer the changes to be marked as minor. There is something to be said for both opinions, and I think the marking will not change unless requested by a majority of admins.

English Translation: There's a problem in yourrobot: not only it modifies the French Wikipedia homepage (whose list of interwikis has a very restrictive policy, whose content is checked by lots of people, and that should not be modified by bots), but it DESTROYS interwiki links as well. It seems that your bots completely ignores the existing inter wikilinks, and does NOT indicate the interwiki links it removes or changes (it ONLY indicates those that are added). Note that the modifications made by your bot have already been reverted on the Accueil page. Note that interwiki links between wikipedia homepages are anonymous. (They should not indicate the name of the default article on each wiki, but only the prefix, as the article name may change over time, without needing updates on the various wikis). A interwiki link without article name IS valid (but your bot seems to ignore this rule, as if they were invalid). Verdy p 16 avril 2006 à 21:47 (CEST)Répondre

Salut,
