Tina (Christina Joy) Barton (née en ) est une historienne de l' Art, conservateur et directeur de musée. Elle est actuellement directeur de la galerie Adam Art Gallery (en), qui fait partie du musée de Wellington nommé Te Papa Tongarewa.

Jeunesse et éducation modifier

Tina Barton a l'issue de ses études a passé un Masters en histoire de l'art à l'Université d’Auckland en 1987. Son sujet de thèse était l’histoire de l'art du "post-object" en Nouvelle-Zélande entre 1969 et 1979 [1]

Carrière modifier

Après avoir finit son MA , Tina Barton rejoignit le Auckland Art Gallery comme assistante de recherche. Elle travailla comme conservateur-Assistante à la Galerie d’Art d’Auckland (Auckland Art Gallery) de 1988 à 1992, et comme conservateur de la "Contemporary New Zealand Art" au Musée de Nouvelle-Zélande Te Papa Tongarewa de 1992 to 1994.[2] Durant son séjour à la "Te Papa" Tina Barton organisa l’exposition majeure Art Now, sur l’art contemporain en Nouvelle-Zélande , espérant en faire une événement biannuel, un espoir qu’elle n’a pas pu matérialiser[3]. Elle a aussi co-organisé avec Deborah Lawlor-Dormer, Alter / Image: Feminisme et représentation dan s l’Art en Nouvelle-Zélande art 1973-1993, une exposition organisée pour célébrer le centenaire du droit de vote des femmes (women's suffrage in New Zealand (en).[4].

De 1995 à 2007, Tina Barton enseigna dans le département d’Histoire de l’Art au Université Victoria de Wellington[1]. Durant ce temps , elle continua à organiser des expositions et en particulier celle nommée Guests and Foreigners, Rules and Meanings (Te Kore), une installation majeur par Joseph Kosuth à la Galerie d’Art Adam à l’Université Victoria [5].

Tina Barton fut appointée comme directeur de la Galerie d'Art Adam en Avril 2007[1]. Les principales expositions qu’elle a organisé pour le musée comprennent:


En 2014, Tina Barton a co-édité une anthologie majeure du critique d’art Wystan Curnow écrite avec le conservateur Robert Leonard. The Critic's Part: Wystan Curnow Art Writings 1971–2013 qui fut publiée par languəen (en) et décrite par le critique Jill Trevelyan comme étant plus une collection d’essais: elle sert d’introduction au développement de l’art en Nouvelle-Zélande, illustrant une période de changement rapide '[17],[18]. Au cours de la même années, elle fut membre du juri pour l'attribution du In Walters Prize (en) 2014 [19].

En 2015, Tina Barton organisa la Billy Apple®: The Artist Has to Live Like Everybody Else, dans une exposition des travaux de Billy Apple pour le “Auckland Art Gallery”[20],[21]. Tina Barton a beaucoup travaillé avec Apple; l’exposition précédente comprennait The Expatriates: Frances Hodgkins and Barrie Bates en 2004 et Billy Apply: New York 1969-1973 en 2009, toutes les deux au “ Adam Art Gallery”[22],[23].
