Description

English: Incomplete illuminated manuscript version of De mulieribus claris, [ca. 1425], originally by Giovanni Boccaccio (1313-1375). From the source: "this manuscript was intended to have illuminated initials, but for some reason they were never completed, which gives us an unusual opportunity to see an earlier stage in the process, preparatory sketches which would have eventually been covered over."
