Description1930 Du Pont SG1 Indianapolis Race Car (21631996840).jpg
Du Pont Motors was founded by E. Paul du Pont to produce marine engines for the Allied nations in World War I. After the war, the Du Pont Motor Company produced extremely high-end automobiles.
Between 1919 and 1931, Du Pont produced only 537 automobiles.
This unique and extremely rare racecar was built to compete in the 1930 Indianapolis 500. Riding mechanics were again mandatory so duPont motors decided to compete with a modified two-passenger Speedster using an earlier 1929 frame. The duPont qualified in 19th place with Charles Moran Jr. as the driver and George Reed as mechanic. Unfortunately, it hit an oil slick 22nd lap and was involved in a three-car accident. The car was returned to the factory foransferred from repairs and was then modified for road use.
