L'Edwin O. Reischauer Institute of Japanese Studies (RIJS) de l'université Harvard est un centre de recherche consacré au Japon. Il fournit un forum pour stimuler l'intérêt des chercheurs et du public[1].

La fonction de l'Institut est de développer et de coordonner les activités concernant le Japon parmi les diverses facultés de Harvard. Le RIJS répond à l'intérêt des chercheurs et du public au Japon à partir de l'extérieur de Harvard, et soutient les activités de sensibilisation telles que des conférences, des conférences, des colloques, des expositions et des films[1].

Le RIJS est fondé en tant qu'institut du Japon en 1973 par Edwin O. Reischauer[1]. L'institut de Japon est renommé en 1985 à l'occasion du 75e anniversaire de Reischauer[2].
