Systématique et taxinomie modifier
Cette famille a été décrite par Pocock en 1900 en tant que sous-famille des Buthidae[2]. Elle a été élevée au rang de famille par Éric Ythier en 2024[1].
Cette famille comprend 128 espèces dans 7 genres, ainsi que 5 espèces dans 3 genres fossiles[1].
